If you’re a rock climber, then you know that your crash pad is one of the most important investments in your climbing career. It’s what protects you from the ground when falling off a route and it’s also what keeps your pads clean and dry. There are so many different options out there for crash pads, but these are our top 5 crash pads of 2021!
Flashed Hueco Pad
The Flashed is a burrito folding design that’s durable and compact. Allows you to be nimble and fit through tight spaces. The burrito design is also great for weight distribution, allowing your backpack/lunch/etc to sit in the middle. Comes standard with an extra padded waist belt for an all-day-long comfortable carry, and top stabilizer straps standard. Plus it comes with a seam sealer pad that attached to the outside; genius! Covers lots of ground and has no folds, so nowhere for an ankle to get trapped.
Organic Simple Pad
The Organic Simple Pad has a classic bifold design with long-lasting foam and fabrics. The downside is the foam is heavier than other pads. Adjustable shoulder strap suspension system allows comfy carrying by people of various heights but lacks cushion. The closure system is simple but secure. Attaches easily to another pad with the Organic Load Flap.
Evolv Launch Pad
One of the coolest things about Evolv Launch Pad is that it comes in two different designs. The durable fabric withstands wear and tear against rock surfaces. Backpack carry and sternum and waist straps for easy transport. It has a huge carpet square to clean off shoes, great for sending but also keeping the rock clean. Closure flap doubles as a multiple pad carrying system.
Metolius Magnum Crash Pad
Pros: Burly tri-fold crash pad covers lots of ground and doubles as a bed for camping. Stash pockets offer storage for shoes and chalk bag. Angles cut hinges eliminate gutters and won’t cause the pad to fold up on you. Slim design to fit through narrow walkways. On the downside, the foam wears out quickly and the carrying system is not as comfortable as other pads.
Black Diamond Circuit Crash Pad
The most affordable on the lineup is the Black Diamond Circuit Crash Pad. The Circuit is a great intro pad if you are looking to get into the sport. Great bifold design and 4inches of foam, with a simple closure system. Unfortunately, it lacks a sternum strap so not best for longer approaches.
